Developmental Disabilities Institute is a not for profit organization
providing services to mentally retarded and developmentally disabled
adults and children. We designed five clinics to serve over 1400 program participants. Four of the centers
are located within former school buildings which also serve as day treatment centers.
In two of the facilities, we created a two story clinic by using the stage and a
side storage area of the gymnasium. As a result, the need to build outside the present structure
was eliminated while preserving the majority of the gym for physical recreation.
Working in close harmony with our client, we developed warm, user-friendly environments to make both patients and staff feel comfortable.
We designed sculptural reliefs as points of interest to provide identity for each location.
All furniture, fixtures, and equipment were also designed or selected to
suit the needs of the population being served. |
