a project of Metropolitan Jewish Health System
We took a portion of the fifth floor of Metropolitan's Brenner
Pavilion, a 528 bed extended care facility, and designed a discreet hospice facility to accommodate the needs of the terminally ill and their families.
The program called for a quiet residential atmosphere that would impart a sense of warmth and comfort.
We left the original room configurations unchanged but replaced overbed lights and painted walls with wall sconces, wall covering, and wood trim. We installed carpet over existing vinyl composition tile and refinished existing doors and wardrobe units.
A dining room alcove that served another part of the floor was partitioned off and opened up with a glass wall to the corridor for use as a family lounge and overnight room. An exterior wall was cut open to allow access to a balcony where residents and their families can sit outdoors.
