Abraham LandowABRAHAM LANDOW

Abraham Landow received his degree in architecture from The Cooper Union in 1922. Upon graduation, he found the major architectural firms too busy to train recent graduates. He was fortunate in finding a mentor, and within a year’s time had opened his own firm, specializing in residential work. By 1926, he had already completed several six-story apartment houses in Brooklyn and developed a very successful practice entailing multi-family residential work, institutional buildings, and townhouses. He maintained offices first in Brooklyn and then moved to Manhattan. In 1947, he relocated his offices to Long Island, where he expanded the practice to include commercial and industrial buildings. In 1960, he was joined in the practice by his son, Lloyd, and in 1965 the firm became known as Landow and Landow Architects.
